THE ADVENTURERS!
5-6 Class
Melinda Pongrey, MSEd - Teacher
Welcome to the ADVENTURERS program! Our classroom offers a unique mix of learning activities and experiences inside and outside the classroom. Each child's creativity is engaged while building social, learning, and academic skills. With a class of 12-15 students, lessons are individualized to meet student's developmental levels and areas of interest as students actively participate in our learning community.

Exciting Program Components
1:1 Technology - Students each have a HP Mini notebook with access to Classroom 2.0 activities and a plethora of free software programs for synthesizing multi-sensory information. We explore the world through interaction with students and teachers from all over the globe, investigating our questions, developing our ideas, and collaborating on projects. Learning Adventures, student-centered, constructivist activities, encourage students to take risks, have fun, and share their learning with each other.
Balametrics - In addition to 1:1 laptops, students spend time daily using the Belgau Balance Boards and various exercises that require precise balance and visual-spatial integration. Not only fun, these activities engage the whole body in building and maintaining neural connections for improving brain motor and academic success.
Sensory integration activities that require individuals to balance precisely, make spatial judgments and provide a means of allowing feedback are the most powerful and effective activities available for maintaining and improving brain-processing efficiency and allowing an individual to become an efficient learner and improve academic success.
Pacific Northwest Trip - Each year we go on a week-long integrated studies trip throughout the Pacific Northwest. We center our focus on water, doing freshwater studies one year and saltwater studies the following year, but also study the history, native culture, biology, geology, and anything else we can come across.
Student Portfolios - Students will be actively involved with the parent-teacher conferences by providing evidence of their learning.

While I am always happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have, the time right before and immediately after school is not always the best time for me to talk. Please feel free to email me to arrange a time that works for us both: melinda@swanschool.net
