The following is a brief description of what will be covered in class. It is not an exclusive list. Projects will be based on group interests and available supplies:

2-D art: Color theory will be explored with different color media such as pastels, paint, watercolor, color pencil and marker. Concepts such as "warm" and "cool" colors, complimentary and analogous colors will be taught, as well as how the use of colors evoke emotions. Pen and ink will be used to teach pointillism, crosshatch and other techniques. We will explore drawing and painting from the "masters" and popular culture, objects in nature, our community, and still-life settings as well as drawing people and animals. We will explore how to create the illusion of depth with vanishing points, foreshortening, shading and atmospheric perspective. We will cover types of printmaking, collage, folk art and photography, as well as composition and design.

3-D art: Clay, paper, sculpture/assemblages with found objects or pre-fabricated items, origami, kites, puppets and a variety of other crafts.

Students will be asked to keep a sketchbook for drawing outside of class and for sketching plans and ideas for projects. Students will also be asked to keep a portfolio of their work throughout the year with notes and comments about assignments and what they learned.
