Hi Parents,
Getting back in the swing of things after our break... If you missed the parent meeting, we announced a few things you'll want to know about:
ELECTIVE CLASSES - JANUARY 22-25
Each year we offer students a week of parent-taught elective classes, giving them an opportunity to be introduced to a wide variety of subjects and skills. It's a fun way to get some of your parent volunteer hours in! The classes will be held from 2:20 to 3:20 Tuesday 1/22 through Friday 1/25; you can set your minimum and/or maximum class size, decide what ages you'd like to work with (K-6 will be participating), and pick whatever topic/project/skill you'd like to share! You can choose to offer the class one day only, offer the same class multiple times, or offer a multi-day class where you'd work with the same group for several days. The sky's the limit on topics-- past offerings have included experiments with electricity, bicycle safety lessons (and a bike ride), poetry at the beach, cooking classes, knitting, woodworking, rocket building, playing chess, balloon tying, creating raw food desserts, food decorating... you get the idea! Whatever interests YOU that would be fun to share with the kids is fair game. Please let us know in the office NO LATER THAN NEXT TUESDAY (1/15) what you'd like to do!
HOMEWORK TUTORING
Stacey, our PE teacher, is going to be available on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons for tutoring with small groups of kids on homework projects, math, writing assignments, etc. These sessions will be limited to small groups, and will run from 3:30-4:30. Kids will have time for a snack (please provide them with an extra snack) and a break, then settle down to work for the remaining 45 minutes. Cost is $8/session. Please sign up in the office ahead of time.
SPANISH AFTER SCHOOL
Loida is planning on offering a "Spanish club" on either Mondays or Fridays after school (both days if there's enough interest). Please talk to her if you're interested in having your child participate. Cost and time will be the same as the after school program: $10 from 3:30-5:30.
VISION/HEARING SCREENING 1/16
Several of our medical professional parents are going to hold an all-school vision and hearing screening on Wednesday, January 16. If your child has been recently screened, or you would prefer that they NOT take part in this, please let us know in the office before next Wednesday.
STILL NEED TO SELL YOUR TREE CARDS?
Join Tara Henery and Maxine Seran at Henery Hardware on Saturday January 26 from 10 am - 2 pm. They'll have a table set up to sell the rest of our cards, and will need some help. Please turn your cards in to the office by Friday the 25th if you have not sold them by then. Contact Maxine for more information-- 385-9277 or seran@waypoint.com.
EGGS FOR SALE
The Drewry's chickens are laying again... wonderful fresh eggs are available for $3/dozen (proceeds are donated to Swan). Eggs are in the fridge, and the donation jar is in the office.
DOES YOUR CHILD HAVE ART SUPPLIES?
Audrey asked that we remind parents that not all kids have their art supplies. The list of what they need is available online at http://www.swanschool.net/classroom/art. They are currently working on drawing, so pencils, pens and watercolors are especially important right now.
