May 6, 2010

Hi all,

Lots of things happening next week-- please read carefully!

CINCO DE MAYO MONDAY
Even though it will really be "Diez de Mayo," we'll be holding our annual Cinco de Mayo celebration (complete with salsa dancing!) on Monday. All K-6 kids have been asked to bring an item-- check with them to see what they're supposed to bring!

HEARING & VISION SCREENING MONDAY
We will have a routine hearing and vision screening on Monday. If you do *not* receive a referral slip in your child's hanging folder afterwards, that means everything was in the range of normal.

PARENT MEETING & BBQ TUESDAY
Our last parent meeting of the year will be a fun one, for parents *and* kids. We're going to have guests from Stars of Tomorrow performing, and will also have some folks from Destination Imagination (see http://www.idodi.org/ for more info) here talking about their program (and bringing a giant crane...). We'll sneak in a board election, and then head outside for a hotdog BBQ-- our treat! Kids are welcome and encouraged to attend the program-- should be about an hour long.

KIDDIE PARADE FRIDAY - 12:30 RELEASE
We need flowers!! Please bring whatever you've got on hand (rhodies are *always* a good choice) to help decorate the swan Friday morning. If you can stay and help decorate for a bit, that would be great! Kids should meet downtown on Monroe Street at 3:45. Please wear your Swan School attire, and feel free to add whatever else looks "celebratory"-- the theme this year is "Diamond Jubilee" We'll have more information next week-- in the meantime, contact Emily Allen if you have any questions--379-5425.

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE TOMORROW
All applications must be complete by tomorrow afternoon to be considered in this round of scholarship applicants. Additional applicants will be considered, as space permits, in August.

ELECTIVES IN JUNE - VOLUNTEER HOURS AVAILABLE!
Please start thinking about an elective you might be willing to offer or coordinate the week of June 1-4. If you have a friend, relative or acquaintance who might be able to offer something, that would be great, too! This is for all the kids in K-6, but the elective offering can specify what ages you'd like to include. Your offering can be given anywhere between 1-4 times, or can be a multiple-day offering (ie: 2 days in a row). Electives will be held Monday-Thursday from 2:05-3:05. We have a *small* budget for supplies-- please check with the office if you'd like to offer something that has a cost associated with it.

THANK YOU!
On behalf of the staff, we want to thank all of you who have brought such creative and delicious lunches and extraordinary desserts, as well as kind words and thoughtful gifts. We all feel VERY appreciated! When is "Parent Appreciation Week"?!
